Sixteen objects reported inside ten LD
There are sixteen transient natural objects reported to be less than ten lunar distances (LD) from our home world today. Within Earth's SOI, two objects get their closest to us on this passage. Newly announced 2019 TM3 reaches 1.25 LD and 2019 TW1 comes to about 1.5 LD*.

This report was generated at 1920 UTC with three discoveries: passing 2019 TM3 (MPEC), outbound 2019 TL3 (MPEC, DOU), and already departed 2019 TP3 (MPEC), which may or may not have actually entered our ten-LD traffic reporting "bubble," as JPL indicates an approach to 9.4 LD* but with a passage uncertainty greater than plus-or-minus ten days. Today's DOU MPEC has follow-up for inbound risk-listed 2019 SL7, outbound risk-listed 2019 SU3, and for five departed objects: 2019 SF4 and the rest risk-listed -- 2019 TC2, 2019 SD, 2019 RT3, and intruder 2019 SX8, plus observations from late September of 2019 SQ and 2019 SC2 (first follow-up, 2.04 days added to 1.90-day discovery arc).

Editor's note: Readers may have noticed the appearance of numerous MPECs with titles like "S/2004 S 35" yesterday and today. These each post astrometry for a natural satellite of Saturn, about which you can read more here.
Notes: Ten times the distance to the Moon (ten LD) has no astronomical importance but is a useful boundary for reporting about transient natural objects that approach our planet's gravitational sphere of influence (SOI), which has a radius of about 2.41 LD from Earth's center. This puts a focus on some of the most important and very best NEO observation work, representative of the much larger NEO discovery and tracking effort. Object temporal distances are derived by A/CC from JPL Horizons data. "LD*" indicates some uncertainty in object passage time and distance. The MPC's NEO Confirmation Page has 109 listings
When last checked at 2358 UTC today, the Minor Planet Center's Near Earth Object discovery Confirmation Page (NEOCP) had 109 objects listed. Of these, 67 were "one nighters." So far The Tracking News has counted a total of 141 listings on the NEOCP today.

Legend: VI# = VI count, Prob Cum = cumulative probability, PS Cum/Max = cumulative/maximum Palermo Scale, TS = Torino Scale (next 100 years)
An impact solution, also known as a "virtual impactor" (VI), is not a prediction but rather a possibility derived from a variant orbit calculation that cannot be eliminated yet based on the existing data. Elimination can come quickly with just a little further observation or may take weeks or months, sometimes years. Once superceded or eliminated, a former impact solution has zero relevance to an object's risk. See Jon Giorgini's "Understanding Risk Pages" to learn more.
