This report was generated at 2051 UTC with first follow-up in today's DOU MPEC for departed objects 2017 WJ16 (10.18 days added to 2.00-day discovery arc) and risk-listed 2017 WT28 and 2017 WE28 (9.20 days added to 1.02-day discovery arc), and with continuing follow-up for three active objects -- 2017 WV12, 2006 XY, and 2017 VT14 (no longer risk-listed, 14.01 days added to 9.33-day observing arc), and for two departed objects -- 2017 VG1 and 2017 VC, plus astrometry from last month for 2017 VE2 and from September for 2017 RS2 and risk-listed 2017 RU2.

Reading:  The American Meteor Society has maps and two videos of a Florida December 5th fireball, and also has maps with seven videos of a Pennsylvania event seen across the U.S. northeast December 2nd.



Notes: Ten times the distance to the Moon (ten LD) has no astronomical importance but is a useful boundary for reporting about transient natural objects that approach our planet's gravitational sphere of influence (SOI), which has a radius of about 2.41 LD from Earth's center. When last checked at 2359 UTC today, the Minor Planet Center's Near Earth Object discovery Confirmation Page (NEOCP) had 39 objects listed. Of these, twelve were "one nighters." So far The Tracking News has counted a total of 43 listings on the NEOCP today.

An impact solution, also known as a "virtual impactor" (VI), is not a prediction but rather a possibility derived from a variant orbit calculation that cannot be eliminated yet based on the existing data. Elimination can come quickly with just a little further observation or may take weeks or months, sometimes years.
