Asteroid/Comet Connection (A/CC) Resources:

The latest A/CC news is available via framed access, RSS news feed RSS news feed, or redirection. - Note: A/CC has a main Web site and also a backup site with its own duplicate RSS news feed.

Navigation tips: Use the << and >> arrows on the menus for each regular section (Observers, Risks, etc.) to move to the previous and next day's news for that section. Use the Index menu item to access specific days through a calendar interface. And use the all-up news archive to access news from any time since A/CC began in early 2002. To keep track of what's new each day, watch the Chronology section.

Traffic Report  on 20 October '12

Eight objects reported inside ten LD

Eith objects are reported to be within ten lunar distances (LD) of Earth today. Risk-listed 2012 UE exits Earth's Hill sphere, passing from 2.85 to 5.43 LD, and 2012 US18 enters Earth's Hill sphere, coming from 5.75 to 3.66 LD. Newly announced 2012 UF34 is inbound from 6.33 to 4.38 LD, and 2012 TP231 from 6.82 to 6.12 LD, while all the others are further away and outbound: 2012 TQ146 from 6.99 to 8.92 LD, 2012 TE79 from 7.48 to 9.02 LD, 2012 UF from 7.63 to 8.48 LD, and 2012 TD79 from 7.92 to 9.77 LD.

Headed our way next, 2012 UW9 arrives inside ten LD on October 27th and radar target 2010 JK1 on November 22nd.

This report was updated at 2351 UTC with new discovery 2012 UF34 (MPEC). Today's first traffic report was generated at 1538 UTC with follow-up in today's DOU MPEC for 2012 TP231, 2012 TD79, and departed 2012 UU9 and 2012 UT9.

Notes: Ten times the distance to the Moon (ten LD) has no astronomical significance but is a useful reporting boundary. Earth's Hill sphere (of gravitational influence) is estimated to extend out to around 3.89 LD. Object distances are interpreted by A/CC from JPL Horizons data.
