NEOCP Activity on 2 February '09
The MPC's NEO Confirmation Page has 15 listings: 7 new, 8 updated
When last checked at 2358 UTC today, the Minor Planet Center's Near Earth Object discovery Confirmation Page (NEOCP) had seven new and eight updated listings. Of these, thirteen were "one nighters." So far The Tracking News has counted a total of 27 objects listed on the NEOCP at some point today.

- K09C00G 2009 CG (small asteroid, H=22.9 ~89m) was discovered at 0826 UT on 1 Feb. by the Catalina Sky Survey (CSS), which observed it at Feb. 1.35-36p3 and 1.41-44p7. The discovery was confirmed by Mt. John Obs. (Feb. 1.42-43p6), the Mt. Lemmon Survey (MLS) (Feb. 2.28p4 & 2.47-48p4), and the Spacewatch 1.8m telescope (Feb. 2.43-44p3).
MPEC 2009-C17 - "17:09 UT" - 2009 CF
- K09C00F 2009 CF (small asteroid, H=23.6 ~65m) was discovered at 0645 UT on 1 Feb. by MLS, which observed it at Feb. 1.28-39p11. The discovery was confirmed by Sabino Canyon Obs. (Feb. 1.33-35p3), Mt. John Obs. (Feb. 1.46-47p3), Great Shefford Obs. (Feb. 1.94-95p2), Spacewatch 1.8m (Feb. 2.16p2), and Jim Bedient via Faulkes Telescope North (Feb. 2.26p2).
MPEC 2009-C16 - "17:07 UT" - 2009 CE
- K09C00E 2009 CE (small asteroid, H=24.7 ~39m) was discovered at 0621 UT on 1 Feb. by LINEAR, which observed it at Feb. 1.26-30p4. The discovery was confirmed by Great Shefford Obs. (Feb. 1.91-93p4), Spacewatch 1.8m (Feb. 2.09-10p3), Sabino Canyon Obs. (Feb. 2.21-23p4), Bedient/Faulkes North (Feb. 2.24-25p3), Sandlot Obs. (Feb. 2.25-26p4), Astronomical Research Obs. - K09C00D 2009 CD (small asteroid, H=22.7 ~98m) was discovered at 0330 UT on 1 Feb. by MLS, which observed it at Feb. 1.15-24p11, 1.33-34p2, 2.19p8, and 2.28p4. The discovery was confirmed by Spacewatch 1.8m (Feb. 1.31-32p2 & 2.20p2), Bedient/Faulkes North (Feb. 2.23-24p3), and MRO (Feb. 2.32-33p4).
MPEC 2009-C14 - "17:02 UT" - 2009 BJ81
- K09B81J 2009 BJ81 (H=18.4 ~708m) was discovered at 1231 UT on 31 Jan. by CSS, which observed it at Jan. 31.52-55p8 and Feb. 1.55-56p2. The discovery was confirmed by Desert Moon Obs. (Feb. 1.43-45p3), MLS (Feb. 1.54-55p7), Sabino Canyon Obs. (Feb. 2.45p3), and Spacewatch 1.8m (Feb. 2.49-50p3).
MPEC 2009-C13 - "16:56 UT" - 2009 BH81
- K09B81H 2009 BH81 (i=45.2°, H=19.3 ~467m) was discovered at 1116 UT on 31 Jan. by MLS, which observed it at Jan. 31.47-55p8 and Feb. 1.45-53p8. The discovery was confirmed by Spacewatch 1.8m (Feb. 1.37-38p2 & 2.37p3).
MPEC 2009-C12 - "16:53 UT" - 2009 BG81
- K09B81G 2009 BG81 (small asteroid, Earth MOID=3.0 LD, H=27.7 ~10m) was discovered at 0647 UT on 31 Jan. by LINEAR, which observed it at Jan. 31.28-32p4 and Feb. 1.34-37p4. The discovery was confirmed by Great Shefford Obs. (Feb. 1.89-91p3), MRO (Feb. 2.51-54p6), and Tenagra II Obs. (Feb. 2.54-55p2). This object is now within ten lunar distances (LD) of Earth, reaching 4.5 LD on 3 Feb.
MPEC 2009-C11 - "16:50 UT" - 2009 BF81
- K09B81F 2009 BF81 (risk-listed, Earth MOID=1.2 LD, H=25.2 ~31m) was discovered at 0550 UT on 31 Jan. by CSS, which observed it at Jan. 31.24-31p7 and Feb. 1.23-25p4. The discovery was confirmed by Great Shefford Obs. (Jan. 31.87-91p3), Calar Alto Obs. (Jan. 31.92-93p3), Sabino Canyon Obs. (Feb. 1.31-32p3), Young/Table Mtn. (Feb. 1.40-41p4), MLS (Feb. 2.38-39p4), and MRO (Feb. 2.45-47p4).
MPEC 2009-C10 - "16:48 UT" - 2009 BE81
- K09B81E 2009 BE81 (H=21.0 ~214m) was discovered at 0324 UT on 31 Jan. by LINEAR, which observed it at Jan. 31.14-19p5. The discovery was confirmed by Great Shefford Obs. (Feb. 1.83-84p4) and Sandlot Obs. (Feb. 2.13-14p3).

An impact solution, also known as a "virtual impactor" (VI), is not a prediction but rather a possibility derived from a variant orbit calculation that cannot be eliminated yet based on the existing data. Elimination can come quickly with just a little further observation or may take weeks or months, sometimes years. Once superceded or eliminated, a former impact solution has zero relevance to an object's risk. See Jon Giorgini's "Understanding Risk Pages" to learn more.
