NEOCP Activity on 14 February '08
The MPC's NEO Confirmation Page has 11 listings: 4 new, 7 updated
When last checked at 2355 UTC today, the Minor Planet Center's NEO discovery Confirmation Page (NEOCP) had four new and seven updated listings. Of these, eight were "one nighters." So far The Tracking News has counted a total of 25 objects listed on the NEOCP at some point today.

- K08C72L 2008 CL72 (H=19.9 ~355m) was discovered at 0931 UT on 9 Feb. by the Catalina Sky Survey (CSS), which observed it at Feb. 3.27-29p4, 9.40-42p3, and 14.42p4. The discovery was confirmed by Goodricke-Pigott Obs. (Feb. 10.29-31p3) and the Mt. Lemmon Survey (MLS) (Feb. 11.32-33p4).
MPEC 2008-C102 - "20:21 UT" - 2008 CZ118
- K08CB8Z 2008 CZ118 (H=18.3 ~741m) was discovered at 0817 UT on 12 Feb. by the CSS, which observed it at Feb. 12.35-38p8 and 12.43-45p4. The discovery was confirmed by Bergisch Gladbach Obs. (Feb. 12.98-00p3), Farra d'Isonzo Obs. (Feb. 13.04-05p2), KLENOT (Feb. 13.07p5), LINEAR (Feb. 13.40-43p3), MLS (Feb. 13.42-44p4), and Astronomical Research Obs. (ARO) (Feb. 14.35-37p3).
MPEC 2008-C101 - "20:09 UT" - 2008 CR118
- K08CB8R 2008 CR118 (risk-listed, H=18.6 ~645m) was discovered at 0826 UT on 10 Feb. by the Spacewatch 0.9m telescope, which observed it at Feb. 10.35-39p3 and 12.34-37p3. The discovery was confirmed by the Spacewatch 1.8m telescope (Feb. 13.34-35p3).
MPEC 2008-C100 - "19:57 UT" - 2008 CG119
- K08CB9G 2008 CG119 (i=41.1°, H=19.0 ~537m) was discovered at 1015 UT on 13 Feb. by the Siding Spring Survey (SSS), which observed it at Feb. 13.43-55p15 and 14.43p4.
MPEC 2008-C99 - "19:47 UT" - 2008 CE119
- K08CB9E 2008 CE119 (small asteroid, H=25.6 ~26m) was discovered at 0714 UT on 13 Feb. by the MLS, which observed it at Feb. 13.30-44p12 and 14.29-33p7.
MPEC 2008-C98 - "19:37 UT" - 2008 CD119
- K08CB9D 2008 CD119 (small asteroid, H=25.5 ~27m) was discovered at 0523 UT on 13 Feb. by the MLS, which observed it at Feb. 13.22-32p12 and 14.26-31p8. The discovery was confirmed by Magdalena Ridge Obs. (MRO) (Feb. 13.36-38p5).
MPEC 2008-C97 - "19:26 UT" - 2008 CC119
- K08CB9C 2008 CC119 (risk-listed, H=19.0 ~537m) was discovered at 1116 UT on 12 Feb. by LINEAR, which observed it at Feb. 12.47-49p3. The discovery was confirmed by Farpoint Obs. (Feb. 13.43-44p4).
MPEC 2008-C96 - "19:07 UT" - 2008 CA119
- K08CB9A 2008 CA119 (small asteroid, H=23.1 ~81m) was discovered at 0835 UT on 12 Feb. by LINEAR, which observed it at Feb. 12.36-41p4. The discovery was confirmed by Farpoint Obs. (Feb. 13.40-41p3), ARO (Feb. 14.33-34p4), MLS (Feb. 14.35-36p4), and Sabino Canyon Obs. (Feb. 14.42-43p3).
MPEC 2008-C95 - "18:54 UT" - 2008 CY118
- K08CB8Y 2008 CY118 (small asteroid, H=25.0 ~34m) was discovered at 0757 UT on 12 Feb. by the MLS, which observed it at Feb. 12.33-42p8 and 14.27-31p8 at V=22.1-7.
MPEC 2008-C94 - "18:44 UT" - 2008 CX118
- K08CB8X 2008 CX118 (small asteroid, H=24.4 ~45m) was discovered at 0658 UT on 12 Feb. by the MLS, which observed it at Feb. 12.29-32p4 at V=22.4, 12.36-38p4 at V=23.0, 13.23-24p4, and 14.26-31p8 at V=22.1-5. The discovery was confirmed by Spacewatch 1.8m (Feb. 12.43-44p2) and MRO (Feb. 13.31-34p4).
MPEC 2008-C93 - "18:36 UT" - 2008 CW118
- K08CB8W 2008 CW118 (small asteroid, H=25.0 ~34m) was discovered at 0751 UT on 10 Feb. by the MLS, which observed it at Feb. 10.33-41p8 and 11.21-22p4 at V=22.1. The discovery was confirmed by Great Shefford Obs. (Feb. 10.93-95p2) and Spacewatch 1.8m (Feb. 11.15-16p3).

An impact solution, also known as a "virtual impactor" (VI), is not a prediction but rather a possibility derived from a variant orbit calculation that cannot be eliminated yet based on the existing data. Elimination can come quickly with just a little further observation or may take weeks or months, sometimes years. Once superceded or eliminated, a former impact solution has zero relevance to an object's risk. See Jon Giorgini's "Understanding Risk Pages" to learn more.
