NEOCP Activity on 11 February '08
The MPC's NEO Confirmation Page has 19 listings: 6 new, 13 updated
When last checked at 2338 UTC today, the Minor Planet Center's NEO discovery Confirmation Page (NEOCP) had six new and thirteen updated listings. Of these, nine were "one nighters." So far The Tracking News has counted a total of 44 objects listed on the NEOCP at some point today.

- K08C71D 2008 CD71 (i=48.1°, q=0.364 AU, H=19.4 ~446m) was discovered at 1103 UT on 9 Feb. by the Spacewatch 0.9m telescope, which observed it at Feb. 9.46-49p3. The discovery was confirmed by the Mt. Lemmon Survey (MLS) (Feb. 10.42-46p4), the Spacewatch 1.8m telescope (Feb. 10.48p3 & 11.28-29p3), and Great Shefford Obs. (Feb. 11.20-21p2).
MPEC 2008-C73 - "16:45 UT" - 2008 CC71
- K08C71C 2008 CC71 (risk-listed, Earth MOID=0.2 LD, H=24.7 ~39m) was discovered at 0930 UT on 9 Feb. by the MLS, which observed it at Feb. 9.40-42p4 and 10.42-46p4. The discovery was confirmed by Great Shefford Obs. (Feb. 11.18-19p3) and Jim Young via Table Mtn. Obs. (Feb. 11.43-45p4).

- K08C70K 2008 CK70 (risk-listed, Earth MOID=0.0 LD, H=25.3 ~29m) was discovered at 0811 UT on 9 Feb. by LINEAR, which observed it at Feb. 9.34-39p4 and 10.27-32p5. The discovery was confirmed by CSS (Feb. 9.36-37p2), MLS (Feb. 10.38-41p4), Eschenberg Obs. (Feb. 10.89-91p4), KLENOT (Feb. 11.01-02p5), Drebach Obs. (Feb. 11.03-04p5), and Great Shefford Obs. (Feb. 11.12-13p3). This object will be coming within ten lunar distances (LD) of Earth, reaching 3.6 LD on 14 Feb.

An impact solution, also known as a "virtual impactor" (VI), is not a prediction but rather a possibility derived from a variant orbit calculation that cannot be eliminated yet based on the existing data. Elimination can come quickly with just a little further observation or may take weeks or months, sometimes years. Once superceded or eliminated, a former impact solution has zero relevance to an object's risk. See Jon Giorgini's "Understanding Risk Pages" to learn more.
