NEOCP Activity on 9 February '08
The MPC's NEO Confirmation Page has 18 listings: 12 new, 6 updated
When last checked at 2354 UTC today, the Minor Planet Center's NEO discovery Confirmation Page (NEOCP) had twelve new and six updated listings. Of these, fifteen were "one nighters." So far The Tracking News has counted a total of 31 objects listed on the NEOCP at some point today.

- K08C22J 2008 CJ22 (small asteroid, H=25.5 ~27m) was discovered at 0805 UT on 8 Feb. by the Mt. Lemmon Survey (MLS), which observed it at Feb. 8.34-42p8 and 9.33-35p4. The discovery was confirmed by Great Shefford Obs. (Feb. 8.91-94p2).
MPEC 2008-C57 - "15:24 UT" - 2008 CF22
- K08C22F 2008 CF22 (risk-listed, Earth MOID=0.0 LD, H=25.9 ~22m) was discovered at 0941 UT on 9 Feb. by the Catalina Sky Survey (CSS), which observed it at Feb. 9.40-50p23. The discovery was confirmed by La Sagra Obs. (Feb. 9.06-08p4), Grasslands Obs. (Feb. 9.46p3), and Jim Young via Table Mtn. Obs. (Feb. 9.46-47p4). This object is now within ten lunar distances (LD) of Earth, reaching 2.0 LD on 10 Feb.
MPEC 2008-C56 - "15:22 UT" - 2008 CE22
- K08C22E 2008 CE22 (risk-listed, Earth MOID=1.1 LD, H=26.4 ~18m) was discovered at 0710 UT on 9 Feb. by the CSS, which observed it at Feb. 9.30-33p4 and 9.40-50p13. The discovery was confirmed by MLS (Feb. 9.33-35p3 & 9.39-41p4), Grasslands Obs. (Feb. 9.42p3), Young/Table Mtn. (Feb. 9.44-45p4), and Bisei Spaceguard Center (Bisei) (Feb. 9.52-53p7). This object is now within ten lunar distances (LD) of Earth, reaching 1.0 LD on 7 Feb.
MPEC 2008-C55 - "15:04 UT" - 2008 CD22
- K08C22D 2008 CD22 (risk-listed, H=22.1 ~129m) was discovered at 0526 UT on 9 Feb. by the CSS, which observed it at Feb. 9.23-25p4, 9.30p1, and 9.35p3. The discovery was confirmed by Young/Table Mtn. (Feb. 9.28-29p4) and Grasslands Obs. (Feb. 9.28p3).
MPEC 2008-C54 - "15:02 UT" - 2008 CC22
- K08C22C 2008 CC22 (small asteroid, Earth MOID=7.5 LD, H=23.9 ~56m) was discovered at 1009 UT on 8 Feb. by the MLS, which observed it at Feb. 8.37-44p8 and 9.36-39p4. The discovery was confirmed by Gaisberg Obs. (Feb. 8.98-00p3).
MPEC 2008-C53 - "14:55 UT" - 2008 CB22
- K08C22B 2008 CB22 (risk-listed, H=19.6 ~407m) was discovered at 1002 UT on 8 Feb. by the CSS, which observed it at Feb. 8.42-44p4, 8.48-49p4, and 8.53p4. The discovery was confirmed by Young/Table Mtn. (Feb. 8.49-51p4), Guidestar Obs. (Feb. 8.97-99p3), Farra d'Isonzo Obs. (Feb. 9.05-07p2), Consell Obs. (Feb. 9.08p5), Vallemare di Borbona Obs. (Feb. 9.10-12p4), Great Shefford Obs. (Feb. 9.20-21p3), and MLS (Feb. 9.48-51p4).
MPEC 2008-C52 - "14:52 UT" - 2008 CA22
- K08C22A 2008 CA22 (H=20.7 ~245m) was discovered at 0805 UT on 8 Feb. by the MLS, which observed it at Feb. 8.34-42p8 at V=22.5 and 9.33-35p4. The discovery was confirmed by Gaisberg Obs. (Feb. 9.01-02p2) and the Spacewatch 1.8m telescope (Feb. 9.44-45p3).
MPEC 2008-C51 - "14:49 UT" - 2008 CZ21
- K08C21Z 2008 CZ21 (risk-listed, H=20.5 ~269m) was discovered at 0656 UT on 8 Feb. by LINEAR, which observed it at Feb. 8.29-31p3. The discovery was confirmed by Great Shefford Obs. (Feb. 9.15-16p3), Young/Table Mtn. (Feb. 9.18-19p4), and Grasslands Obs. (Feb. 9.22p3).
MPEC 2008-C50 - "14:46 UT" - 2008 CY21
- K08C21Y 2008 CY21 (small asteroid, H=24.9 ~35m) was discovered at 0636 UT on 8 Feb. by LINEAR, which observed it at Feb. 8.28-32p5. The discovery was confirmed by Great Shefford Obs. (Feb. 9.14-15p3), Young/Table Mtn. (Feb. 9.16-17p4), and Grasslands Obs. (Feb. 9.21p3).
MPEC 2008-C49 - "14:43 UT" - 2008 CX21
- K08C21X 2008 CX21 (small asteroid, H=24.5 ~43m) was discovered at 0647 UT on 7 Feb. by LINEAR, which observed it at Feb. 7.28-33p5 and 8.33-37p4. The discovery was confirmed by Great Shefford Obs. (Feb. 9.10p3), Grasslands Obs. (Feb. 9.24p4), and Young/Table Mtn. (Feb. 9.30-31p3).

An impact solution, also known as a "virtual impactor" (VI), is not a prediction but rather a possibility derived from a variant orbit calculation that cannot be eliminated yet based on the existing data. Elimination can come quickly with just a little further observation or may take weeks or months, sometimes years. Once superceded or eliminated, a former impact solution has zero relevance to an object's risk. See Jon Giorgini's "Understanding Risk Pages" to learn more.
