- "Meteorite Roads Show," Moose Jaw Times Herald 6 Aug. - Quote: "It was a quiet morning in the Western Development Museum for meteorite researchers Nathan Seon and Martin Beech, who had a table set up from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for anyone wanting to bring in a suspected meteorite... The Prairie Meteorite Search has been going on for seven years." {permalink}
- "Collection falls into hands of meteorite gallery," Star-Telegram 6 Aug. - Quote: "[The] Monnig Meteorite Gallery at Texas Christian University ... recently acquired samples of 22 of the world's most coveted meteorites. The $70,000 haul comes from the Vaux meteorite collection at Philadelphia's Academy of Natural Sciences." {permalink}
- "Expounding space," Huntsville Times 6 Aug. - Quote: "Does Pluto have water vapor ice? Is the surface of Mercury molten lead? Can asteroids be mined? Those questions are just a few NASA scientists hope to answer through a series of probes [from the] New Frontiers and Discovery Office, managed by Marshall Space Flight Center... The missions are geared to be low cost by NASA standards, ranging in price from $425 million to $700 million." {permalink}
- "Indian government considers astronaut proposals," Flight International 6 Aug. - Quote: "The ISRO [Indian Space Research Organisation] robotic mission roadmap includes an asteroid fly-by mission or an impactor that would ram into a near-Earth object in the second half of the next decade." {permalink}

- "The Formation and Evolution of Planetary Systems: Placing Our Solar System in Context with Spitzer" by Meyer, Michael R. with Lynne A. Hillenbrand, Dana Backman & 32 others, abstract & PDF at arXiv.org Jan. 2007 - Quote: "We provide an overview of the Spitzer Legacy Program 'Formation and Evolution of Planetary Systems' (FEPS)... With a sample of ~328 stars ranging in age from ~3 Myr to ~3 Gyr, we trace the evolution of circumstellar gas and dust from primordial planet-building stages in young circumstellar disks through to older collisionally generated debris disks. When completed, our program will help define the time scales over which terrestrial and gas giant planets are built, constrain the frequency of planetesimal collisions as a function of time, and establish the diversity of mature planetary architectures." {permalink}
- "Robust Models for Phase Shifts in Accreting Binary Stars" by Cantrell, Andrew G. with Charles D. Bailyn, abstract & PDF at arXiv.org 6 Aug. - Quote: "Radial velocity studies of accreting binary stars commonly use accretion disk emission lines to determine the radial velocity of the primary star and therefore the mass ratio. These emission line radial velocity curves are often shifted in phase from the expected motion of the primary. These phase shifts cast doubt on the use of disk emission lines in the determination of mass ratios. We present a systematic study of phase shifts [and we present] another class of models, which we call 'measurement offset models.'" {permalink}
