ACC's Small Object Report for 12-18 Dec. 2005
A semi-automated report compiled on 19 December 2005 at 0001 UTC
There are 7 small objects reported in the last 168 hours, during which 0 were newly discovered.
Currently 922 NEAs are listed with H>22.0 by JPL and/or the Minor Planet Center (756 are listed as such by both).
[ Small Object News | Objects (by size) | Object Index (alpha/xref) | 48 Hours | Viewing | Weekly ]
Editor's note: Long-time A/CC readers will recognize this page as a
resumption of our weekly small object reports published for awhile last year.
This feature in its new form is intended to update when needed as time permits
on a daily basis, and a copy will be archived off on Sundays.
Object listing order is by smallest size first, with size calculated using a
standard but very general formula based on an object's absolute magnitude (H),
or brightness. ("Small" is less than roughly 135 meters in diameter, below the
size theoretically considered to be potentially hazardous.) Observatory order
within object listings is by earliest observation during the reporting period.
Updates to this page are flagged on A/CC's RSS news feed.

- Three small objects are reported in the 18 Dec. DOU MPEC 2005-Y05: 2005 WK56, 2005 XO66, and 2005 RA3. This last, from Leura Observatory in New South Wales, added 56.885 days to what had been an observing arc of 49.341 days.
- Not reported in MPECs yet, two small objects have been observed by radar from Arecibo in Puerto Rico: 2005 XA (see info last week) on 2 Dec. and 2005 WK56 on 3-4 Dec. Also observed on 1-2 Dec, 2005 WA1 is almost a small object, given JPL's current calculation of H=21.55. See JPL's Astrometric Radar page for data, or jump to radar observations from the NEODyS home page for each object.
- The out-of-view dates in the Viewing section below have been updated on 17 Dec.
- The 17 Dec. DOU MPEC 2005-Y04 reports observation of 2005 WK56 (adding 5.098 days to an 11.594-day observing arc), 2005 XO4, and 2005 XO66 (adding 6.044 days to a 0.738-day arc).
- On 16 Dec., the DOU MPEC2005-Y01 reports observation of 2005 RJ3 from Mauna Kea in November, adding 45.053 days to what had been an observing arc of 22.982 days, and observation of 2005 XO4 from yesterday at Jornada Observatory in New Mexico, adding 7.982 days to what had been that object's 1.973-day observing arc.
- The 15 Dec. DOU MPEC 2005-X82 reports observation of 2005 UL6 and 2005 UN5 from David Tholen's team on Mauna Kea in November.
- 14 Dec. note: After all the years and more than 920 small objects discovered, only one of them has an orbit determined well enough for the object to be numbered. This is a sign of how difficult it is to track and to recover small objects. Observers, please check out this page's new Viewing Opportunities for Small Objects section for a list of more than 30 objects predicted to be in view now for follow-up or recovery, and more coming into view soon. Feedback is welcomed.
- The 14 Dec. DOU MPEC 2005-X74 reports no observations of small objects.
- The 13 Dec. DOU MPEC 2005-X73 reports observation of 2005 WK56.
- The 12 Dec. DOU MPEC 2005-X66 reports observation of 2005 WK56.
- See more news, from the week of 5-11 December.

Out-of-view date based on MPES solar elongation <40° and/or magnitude V>22.0 at 1200 UT.
(Not factored in is any lunar interference with viewing.)
Objects are linked in the left-most column only if observed in the last seven days,
while objects with earlier small-object reporting are linked under "Notes."
Diameter ("Dia") is in meters, a very rough estimate from brightness (H).
Observing "Arc" is whole days from Lowell Observatory's Orbit intersections page (if an
object has no significant MOIDs, this source doesn't report the object and its arc).
